Martial Arts Student Insurance
Flexible & Affordable 'Member to Member' Cover From Just £0.89 Per Year
We are proud to provide one of the UK’s most affordable martial arts student insurance schemes.
We can offer any and all clubs and instructors the chance to register their students to the #MartialArtsDoneRight scheme from just £0.89 per student, per year for £1,000,000 Martial Arts Student Public Liability Insurance.
Martial Arts Student Insurance is available in more than 150+ styles and disciplines, in levels of £1,000,000, £2,000,000 or £5,000,000 Public Liability. We can also provide personal accident cover too, if you require it.
You can choose to pay annually or monthly and there’s no obligation to register any number of students. Simply pay as you go, for as many as you need.
Our online system allows you to edit and reconcile student details in real time, creating a live database of registered students. You can use the data to make your own licence slips, import and export information to your own CRM or manage your student membership using our instructor portal.
You won’t find more flexible and affordable student cover.
No Minimum Numbers - Pay As You Go
There’s no minimum orders or student amounts – be it 1 or 10,000 students – you can automatically enrol them for insurance securely online.
Manage & Allocate Places In-House
You don’t need to provide us with any license slips or registration forms. We’ll allocate a pre-set number of spaces for you based on your purchase, and you can assign students to the available slots in-house, without notifying us.
Recycle Student Places
If a student leaves, you’re free to replace their student slot with a new member without paying again.
Flexible & Affordable
You can select the level of Public Liability and any optional Personal Accident cover on a per-registration basis. You can also chose to pay annually or monthly, with prices starting from as little as £0.89 per year.
Secure Portal Tracking
For peace of mind, you’ll be able to track all of your allocated student placements as well as the configuration of cover from our secure customer portal.
Manage Students In Realtime Using Our Instructor Portal
Included with all student registrations is access to our leading instructor portal. You can edit student details and allocations in realtime to ensure up to date information is stored against student memberships and insurance.
Every student allocation receives a unique MADR registration number which you can use in registration documents, licence slips and other self-branded documents.
We’re a REAL Organisation With REAL UK Based Staff
We know martial arts has lots of tin-pot organisations that spring up, collect your fees and then disappear. Most of these are based out of the kitchen or lounge, but claim to have an ‘office’ and ‘team’.
We have a genuine, dedicated team based in our West Sussex Offices which enjoy 1,200 sqft of dedicated space in which we help our clients with expert advice and guidance.
Access On-Demand Custom Student Documents
Our system allows you to update your student portal with the details of a new student, and then run a simple tool in the member’s area to produce a customised A4 student document and a student licence slip.
You can choose to send this directly to yourself or straight onto the student, to confirm allocation and cover.
This tool is completely free.
Pricing & Costs
All of our pricing is volume based, straightforward and transparent. You are always in control of spending.
You will always be billed based on the bulk of the students registered during a specific transaction. The more you register, the lesser the unit cost will be.
How Does #MADR Martial Arts Student Insurance Work?
Questions & Answers
By default all of our student memberships to #MADR are inclusive of £1,000,000 Public Liability insurance designed to provide protection in the event of a student injuring somebody or causing damage to a venue. Cover is also available in £2,000,000 and £5,000,000 increments as required.
This is commonly referred to as ‘member to member’ insurance and personal accident cover is also available.
In addition to their core protection from damages when pursued by another student or venue, we can also provide your students with Personal Accident (PA) cover. This provides assistance when a student is injured, without the need to pursue a claim against somebody else. PA can include cover for things like dental expenses, broken bones, loss of income, physiotherapy and more. Please check the benefit amounts to learn more.
No, you don’t. All student placements can be recycled so if one student leaves, you can just assign another new-starter or renewal in their place instead.
You can manage all student registrations in-house, using the unique #MADR registration number assigned to each student placement after you sign them up.
So, how does this work in practice?
Let’s imagine you purchase 20 student slots, each with £2,000,000 Student Public Liability insurance in place. You’ll see all 20 slots with unique student numbers assigned. You don’t need to tell us when you register students to your slots; but you do have to be able to prove to the insurer in the event of a claim that they were assigned to a vacant position before the incident.
You might chose to create your own license slips and mark the unique MADR number there, or you might use your own in-house spreadsheet, CRM or system. Alternatively, you may just note the student’s #MADR number on their registration form too.
We recommend you use our instructor portal, which allows you to edit and assign students to cover in realtime. You can also log medical conditions, grades and other information in realtime to give you a current, live database of registered and insured members.
Ultimately, it’s up to you but we can help if you need assistance getting this right. This means you’re free to manage student placements in-house without notifying us when you ‘chop and change’ who’s covered.
Like we always say, we’re supportive of associations and NGBs and respect the crucial role responsible organisations can play in the UK.
Student insurance with an association will include membership to that organisation. Some organisations provide more benefits that others, but most will include support, technical assistance and grade recognition. This ultimately costs money to provision. Alot of organisations are also relatively small so don’t have the same buying power.
Whilst your students are indeed assigned membership to the #MADR scheme when they’re registered and insured, it’s not an association membership. This means we can keep it fast and affordable, because we don’t have the same overheads to provide for.
No, we don’t. We’re not an association in the traditional sense so we don’t provide the associated student registration services many organisations or NGBs do. That’s one of the reasons we can provide such affordable student cover.
If you need license books, grade recognition or other associated licensing for students you may need to think about using an association’s group cover policy instead. We would recommend the BMABA as it’s part of our group, but there are of course lots of other options out there.
Cover is underwritten by XL Catlin and AXA. As this is served from our group cover policy, we’re very happy to make available the full combined policy wording but please ensure you look at the section relevant to the student Public Liability and – where applicable – personal accident. We include the personal accident limitations and benefit amount separately for your ease of reference too.
This is a really vexing question for us, and one that is constantly mis-understood by the wider association market.
There is a legal term known as ‘Volenti Non Fit Injuria’ which effectively means that no claim is possible when a person knowingly and willingly undertakes a risk. This isn’t specific to martial arts – it applies to all areas of life and sport.
Volenti non fit injuria is a defence of limited application in tort law. A direct translation of the latin phrase volenti non fit injuria is, ‘to one who volunteers, no harm is done’. Where the defence of volenti applies it operates as a complete defence absolving the Defendant of all liability. It is often stated that the Claimant consents to the the risk of harm, however, the defence of volenti is much more limited in its application and should not be confused with the defence of consent in relation to trespass. The defence of volenti non fit injuria requires a freely entered and voluntary agreement by the Claimant, in full knowledge of the circumstances, to absolve the Defendant of all legal consequences of their actions. There is a considerable overlap with contributory negligence and since the introduction of the Law Reform (Contributory Negligence) Act 1945, the courts have been less willing to make a finding of volenti preferring to apportion loss between the parties rather than taking an all or nothing approach.
What this effectively means is in the event of a competition, as there is a known and willing risk assumed by the student(s), there can be no claim under the personal accident or public liability aspects as the risk is willingly entered into.
Whilst it’s a contentious area that could cut one way or another in the event of a claim arising, we’ve decided to ‘play it safe’ and avoid leading clubs into any dangerous positions by stating that this cover is not applicable for events cover.
In all cases where events are taking place, separate Public Liability for Events should be considered to make sure participants, spectators and the organisers are properly covered.

No minimum orders, no need to supply student details and no other red-tape.
We operate an ‘open-allocation’ student insurance with membership scheme. This means that from £0.89 per student, per year your students are enrolled to the #MADR Scheme and insured per your request. You then manage all of the allocations in-house with no obligation to tell us who you’re registering nor their grades or dates of birth etc.
In the event of a claim you’ll need to be able to demonstrate a student being allocated to a vacant slot in advance of an incident, but we’ll help you understand this obligation and process too.
